Wanna burn calories but not go to the gym? Here are 5 suggestions that you can get on board with!

  • Have a bath – you may have heard that there was a recent study done by Loughborough University where they asked fourteen men to take a bath (at 104 degrees for an hour) and  also asked them to cycle for an hour. The cycling of course burned off more calories, however it was found that the bath resulted in burning 140 calories which is around the same as the calories if you went for a thirty minute walk. There is inevitably some “small print” i.e that exercising is better for you in the same way that if you eat 100 calories worth of chocolate, that’s not the same as eating 100 calories worth of vegetables, but hey, it’s still burning calories!
  • Do some cleaning – if you do thirty minutes of cleaning you can burn between 85 – 150 calories (depending on how much effort you put in!)
  • Laugh – you can burn between 10 – 40 calories by laughing for 15 minutes per day – so read that funny book, watch that amusing film, have a laugh with your friends – it’s good for you!
  • Chew gum – studies show that if you chew gum for an hour you burn 11 calories – every little helps!
  • Cooking – if you spend 40 minutes actively cooking (i.e. chopping food, cleaning up etc), you can burn around 100 calories!
