The second season of 13 Reasons Why is released on Netflix on 18th May.
Season one told the story of teenager Hannah Baker who committed suicide and told her story as to why she had taken her own life through 13 cassette tapes each with a different “reason why” and featuring a different person. Told both in the present and via flashbacks, series one finished with us discovering the “13 reasons why” Hannah had done this and seemingly therefore in a way ending that story.
However, as 2017’s most tweeted about show (and one which stirred up a lot of controversy), inevitably a second season was developed. Netflix’s VP of original series has said, “Soon after the Season 1 launch, we saw global conversation explode on the controversial topics covered by the series and understood we had a responsibility to support these important discussions,” and there will now be a video before the start of each season featuring some of the actors in the show, as well as more resources to help viewers (e.g. a downloadable guide to assist parents and teens to discuss the difficult issues featured in the show).
“I felt like this whole thing was going to be over. But it’s not” says Clay at the start of the trailer for season two (check out the full trailer below). From what we see in the trailer and know so far, the second season’s “cassette tapes” will be in the form of polaroid photos instead and Jessica’s rape by Bryce looks to be a centrepoint of the story…
