Plot summary: Katy Tur (NBC News Correspondent) followed Donald Trump’s presidential campaign around America, calling him out on his lies and doing a lot of fact-checking. In return, Trump singled her out, referring to her as “third-rate” and “disgraceful”. This is a journal of Katy’s time reporting on the campaign.
What we liked: This is a really interesting book – written in diary-type format it’s pretty fascinating to read about the world of journalism. When you then add in Donald Trump and his Presidential campaign to the mix then it really comes alive! While the world watched with surprise, interest and, in a lot of cases, trepidation as Trump’s campaign took flight, reading the reals ins and outs as it happened through Katy’s reporting quite frankly shows that the whole election even more bizarre than you think! If you work in a busy role then you’ll no doubt empathise with how Katy describes how exhausted she feels!
What we didn’t like: The format with one chapter being the lead-up to the election followed by one chapter on the night of the election itself takes a little getting used to – we get the idea behind doing that but it would flow a bit better and build the story more if it was all written chronologically.
