GTTG film review: ‘A Simple Favour’

Warning – spoilers!!
Our review rating (out of 5): ♥♥♥
Plot summary:  Starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, the movie tells the story of Stephanie and Emily who become friends when they meet at school (their sons are in the same class). Emily then goes missing and Stephanie makes it her mission to find her friend.

What we liked: Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are fabulous as always – both actresses look to be in their element here and bounce off each other well. Henry Golding also stars as Emily’s husband in one of his first movie roles (the other being another movie currently out – Crazy Rich Asians) and he has impressive onscreen presence. The first half of the movie is great – comedic with a dark edge to it and the plot-line moves along quickly and keeps you engaged.

What we didn’t like: In the second half of the movie, the story gets really farfetched – you kind of know what is coming before the movie gets there but it all doesn’t quite add up. And Emily’s husband (and Stephanie!) moves on very quickly after Emily disappears which never gets fully explained or set up. It’s an entertaining enough movie which is definitely helped significantly by its cast, but it’s best watched without thinking too much into the holes in the plot!
